Avon Whitewater Park

Whether you are a seasoned paddler or a curious sightseer, Avon’s Whitewater Park offers an exhilarating and fun freestyle kayaking experience. Located just blocks south of the town center, directly under “Bob the Bridge” on Avon Road. The Park offers a spectator viewing terrace and large flat boulders along the river’s edge for seating. In keeping with the humor of the name of the bridge that hovers above the park, the three water features are aptly named, Baby Bob, Bob Jr., and Bob Sr. Whitewater Park offers beginning, intermediate, and advanced paddling opportunities. The Avon Recreation Center offers kayak lessons and water safety instruction at its indoor pool.

First Descents is committed to curing young adults of the emotional effects of cancer and empowering them to regain control of their lives by experiencing whitewater kayaking and other challenging adventure sports in a safe, fun and supportive environment.
First Descents became a non-profit organization in 2000 by founder and professional kayaker Brad Ludden at age 18. Since then we have served over 600 young adults with cancer. First Descents started with one camp in Vail, CO in 2001 with 14 participants and has now grown to 9 programs in 6 different states serving over 140 young adults this past summer. With so many young adults being diagnosed each year in the USA we feel an obligation to continue to grow and offer these programs to more young adults in need. With continued fundraising support and volunteer dedication, we’re confident that we will expand to serve thousands.

The Northwest Creeking Competition (formerly known as the Canyon Creek Race) was started to preserve and save the scenic lower stretch of Canyon Creek, Washington from hydro electric development.Today, the NWCC is a weekend-long whitewater festival with courses on both Canyon Creek and the East Fork Lewis River. Each April, kayakers from all over the region come to scenic Washington state to compete and celebrate the river life!
